In this way, they can practice without endangering their customers. Business leaders also need to be able to try out their analytical and decision making abilities in a safe but realistic environment, and this is where HOTS comes in. HOTS is a computer-based simulation in which teams operate a service business (a hotel) in a dynamic and competitive environment, making decisions in accelerated real-time and analysing results from comprehensive management reports and market feedback. Participants work in teams with each team running a business in competition with all the others. Each team analyses its current situation and decides on any changes to its policies and resource allocation for the coming month. The simulation calculates the trading results for each team and provides them with sales analyses, financial statements, feedback from customers and employees and information on the sales and current status of their competitors.
